Our History

Established in 2011, Mezzo Music Academy is on the rise, and has recently relocated to a larger, purpose built premises in Terenure. At the helm, is Sonya Murphy Lyons, a UCD Music Graduate with over 20 years experience in teaching Classical Guitar.

Hailing from a musical family, her father William Murphy, a well known songwriter and guitarist, teaches at the academy along with her sister, pianist & conductor Maria Stanley, and niece, Sorcha Stanley, who manages the academy.

Sonya & Sorcha strive to create a warm, welcoming environment where students are nurtured to succeed and love music from a young age.

The benefits of music

The benefits of music education are well documented. Singing or playing an instrument develops areas of the brain devoted to language and reasoning.

Reading music helps children understand maths, along with boosting their abilities in science and technology.

Practicing music underscores the rewards of hard work and dedication.

Performing music is infinitely wonderful for a student’s self confidence, along with helping to manage nerves, and working as part of a team when involved in ensembles.

We teach a variety of instruments and musical genres, with emphasis on enjoyment, so our students will always have a love for their instrument throughout their lives.

We provide tuition for the following instruments:
Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Classical Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Oboe, Bassoon, Voice, Theory Of Music, Junior & Leaving Certificate Music.
