Claire Austen was 5 when she began her music studies at the Young European Strings School of Music in Dublin, Ireland. She is currently studying Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music under Fionnuala Hunt, having received her Diploma in Music Performance and Teaching with Distinction in June 2016.
Claire has performed as a soloist in London, Venice, Budapest and Brussels. Her first solo appearance was at the age of 8, in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. In 2009, she was chosen to perform at the ABRSM 120th Anniversary Concert in Cadogan Hall, London. Claire regularly participates in Master Classes with leading violinists including: Maxim Vengerov, Jan Repko, Daniel Rowland and Michael Vaiman. She was a finalist in the National Concert Hall’s ‘Young Musician of the Year’ in 2015. In 2017 she was awarded ‘Most Promising Musician’ at the Freemason’s Young Musician of the Year competition.
She was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland for many years and served as its co-leader for two years. Claire is a former leader of the Trinity College Orchestra and performed as a soloist with them in March 2018. Claire is the current leader of the RIAM Symphonia. She has just returned from several months in Vienna studying at the University for Music and Performing Arts under the tutelage of Prof. Ernst Kovacic.
Claire has been teaching violin & piano for many years, both privately and in Willow Park National School.
